Fighting with Fire Ants

(You can tell when I finally get access to the internet because there are a bonanza of posts, sorry about that)

So we know our apartment is infested with ants - possibly two different species: your garden variety black ant, which under most circumstances is a nuisance more than anything else, and fire ants (we think) nasty little buggers that have taking to biting us. Here's a picture of one eating my arm.
It may surprise some of you, particularly those of you know know of our previous wars with NYC roaches, that in this instance we're currently testing a cease-fire with the ants. Since my first arrival, we were battling quite fiercely with them - spraying their mega highways through our apartment. We had been getting bitten every once in a while, but that only steeled our resolve to fight fire with fire.

Then late last week, they started fighting dirty. At this point, we had sprayed their "nests" in the second bedroom, the second bathroom, the kitchen ... so logically they next place they moved was to our bedroom and our closet. Here's Allen covered in bites from the ants hiding in his clothes.
Gotta admit that finding bugs actually hiding in your clothes waiting to strike sort of changed the game dynamic. Since then, after spraying a ring of the insecticide around our bed for safe measure, we've decided NOT to fight back, but let them have free passage, wherever they happen to be at the time. Thankfully this isn't all that hard since we're eating most of our meals in the downstairs apartment anyway --- but still.

I've said it before - but animals really do behave differently here.

Update (10/08): Believe it or not, but since we called our "truce" with the fire ants, neither of us has been bitten. Just sayin' ....
