Two weeks ago Allen got a call from one of our more random acquaintances here - a clerk at the bank who helped us once (hey, beggars can't be choosers). Anyway, he knew Allen plays tabla and asked if he would be interested in performing with his band at the Taj Residency (the fancy hotel in Lucknow) on Valentine's Day... intriguing...
To test out the waters Allen said he would come to their practice first before committing to anything.
Turns out his band was actually the rock-and-roll band of some of his highschool friends (tabla accompaniment, I can sort of see it...). The group had been written up in the local paper as up-and-coming stars.

Tragically, the band seemed to suffer from the same lack of interest/commitment that most high school bands suffer from.... and unfortunately the gig was canceled "by the organizers" just a couple of days before Valentine's Day. Everyone at school (who were obviously invited to witness the magic happen) were all very disappointed ... in particular, Allen was to figure prominently in the band's rendition of "Summer of 69" by Bryan Adams, which we have learned is the song every young Indian guitar player learns to play first (their version of "House of the Rising Sun")
...but we've been assured by the band's manager/dad that they will keep Allen in mind for future gigs.
